Midnight City

by Aimee Weber

Midnight City was intended to be an urban cultural center first, a place of commerce second. Since its creation in May of 2005, Midnight City has been a social hot spot for a wide range of groups. Sporting a staggering 570 snapshots on SL Universe, the enthusiastic acceptance of Midnight City as a social center can be seen in the day-to-day activities of its visitors. The main infrastructure of Midnight City serves to set and enforce the aesthetic theme so that residents can move in and add their own unique touches. The layout is a central hub with streets radiating outward and connecting with a long and winding outer street. Areas are divided into districts including the posh "Uptown" section, the gritty "Docks" district, and the quaint "Brownstone village" district. Some definitive landmarks include:

- A working soccer stadium (with free uniforms available) that fosters teamwork and lighthearted competition among residents and visitors. The stadium can also be set up with festive lighting making an ideal venue for celebrations.

- Several social spots including the gritty warehouse rave club known affectionately as "Club Feted" and the the dramatic RadioRadio Lounge which provides a 360 degree view of the entire city from atop one of the skyscrapers.

- The Docks and Slum section of Midnight City which was not just intended to convey gritty local color, but also features strategically placed obstacles and hiding places ideal for combat gaming among groups of friends.

- A movie house that capitalizes on Second Life's new video streaming capabilities. This allows friends to file into the theatre and actually watch movies on the big screen together!

- An urban park (by Forseti Svarog) serves not only has a great location for events, but is often frequented by amorous couples.

- A central plaza (by Mistress Midnight) provides a comfortable welcome area for new visitors.
