Seaside Village

The village is a reconstruction, in progress, of a small ancient seaside haven that existed thousands of years ago in the virtual world called Second Life(tm). Residents began to uncover the foundations and a few intact chambers not long after Linden Lab opened their world to the public. The village is located on the southwest coast of a small skinny island in the region called Cowell. To the north and west (in Stinson, Noyo and Rodeo) is a large forest with ruins that echo the village architecture. A small hilly divide separates the village proper from the wilder area to the north with a nice transition through the countryside and into the forest.
The area is at once familiar and surreal. There is a magical-ness to it and it echoes of places far away in space and time. It is a complex place with large open spaces as well as nooks and crannies to explore. Three good words to describe it would be charming, peaceful and mysterious.
There are many landmarks and unique places throughout the town--the lighthouse, the amphitheater and the central plaza to name just a few. The large central plaza lies just south (and beneath) the amphitheater and is a great public square that connects various portions of the village. A wide staircase leads down from the plaza to a protected dock area. Many boaters sail through the channel that divides the village and dock their vessels there while they explore the environs. An old stone bridge provides a path over the waterway while allowing boats to navigate through the channel. A series of smaller plazas throughout the village provide more intimate shared spaces where buildings are clustered together.
There are places for people to gather, there are places for people to be alone. Space to have a public concert or festival and space to watch the sunset with that special someone. A good mix of public areas, shops and homes.
