There is nothing like "playing a role" to drive home essential lessons. We can move beyond the multiple choice test to give students the chance to practice making the judgments that they will need to make when in practice. Finding or creating such systems will require some initial effort. But you may be surprised how little time it takes to translate a traditional teaching practice into an interactive simulation that can be used by students on their own time. The pedagogical payoffs could be substantial.
